"Now THIS is a belt!!! The best that I've ever owned! Not only is it a rugged work of art, I can actually hear the quality."

01/The Leather
Nearly 2x More Leather For Quality That Lasts
The belt you bought at a department store was probably made from "genuine leather," which is industry shorthand for the lowest usable grade. They sand the surface, spray on a polyurethane finish, and call it leather. It cracks at the holes within months. A Hanks belt is cut directly from the top layer of a full North American steerhide. The natural grain is completely intact. That's why the holes never crack, and why the belt is nearly a quarter inch thick instead of the paper-thin strips on the department store rack.

02/the hardware
Premium Chicago Screws For Craftsman-Level Hardware
The buckle on a cheap belt is zinc alloy with a nickel plating that chips, corrodes, and sometimes turns your shirt green. Hanks uses solid stainless steel. The buckle attaches with 3/8" Chicago screws: two-piece threaded fasteners that lock mechanically. Snaps rely on friction and fail. Chicago screws don't. They also make the buckle removable in 30 seconds. Swap a dress buckle for a roller buckle on the same belt. Hanks sells replacement buckles, keepers, and screws individually.

03/the bison
Double-Layer American Bison Nobody Else Builds
Steerhide is the workhorse, but bison is where Hanks separates from everyone. Bison hide has a natural pebbled grain that gives it visual depth steerhide doesn't have. It's softer out of the box, breaks in faster, and develops a richer patina over time. The Montana Bison Double Layer laminates two pieces of bison hide together for a belt that's substantial enough for EDC gear but supple enough for daily wear. Every hide has slightly different grain pattern. No two belts look exactly the same. Popov doesn't offer bison. Orion doesn't do double-layer. Saddleback offers bison but not laminated.

04/the warranty
100-Year Warranty Backed By 75 Years of Proof
Most belt companies don't offer any warranty. The ones that do cap it at 30 or 90 days. Hanks puts 100 years on every belt because full-grain leather, built at this thickness, with this hardware, does not fail under normal use. The warranty covers defects in materials and craftsmanship. A company using bonded leather could never offer this. They'd go bankrupt processing returns within the first year. Hanks has offered it for 75 years and is still a family business in the same town.

05/the people
American-Made Quality From a Family Business Since 1949
Hank Calleo started making leather goods in Endicott, New York in 1949. The company is still there. Still family-owned. Still cutting, stitching, and assembling every belt by hand in their own 30,000-square-foot facility. Three generations of a family whose entire livelihood depends on what ships out the door. Orders are processed within 24 hours. Shipping is free. Exchanges are free. When you call, you're talking to someone in Endicott who probably walked past the belt you ordered while it was being made.
